Jenni Rivera’s Fans Banned From Visiting Singer’s Grave
Jenni Rivera fans are banned from visiting “La Diva de la Banda†at the All Souls Cemetery in Long Beach, Calif., is reporting.
According to the Mexican daily, Rivera’s family members are in the process of creating a custom-made gravestone to be placed where she was buried, which will have an epitaph telling the late singer’s life story.
“Many people come here to visit Jenni’s tomb, but because it has no name many people don’t know where she is,†an employee at the cemetery told El Universal in Spanish, asking to be referred to as an anonymous source.
“The space which was bought for Jenni costs approximately $100,000 and fits about eight people,†the source added.
“It is something special which the family is obviously trying to protect.â€
Even a month after Rivera’s burial, the cemetery has prohibited reporters and curious fans from seeing “La Gran Señora.â€
Rivera, four members from her staff and two pilots perished in a tragic plane accident when the Learjet 25 nose-dived 28,000 feet to the ground. She was on her way from one gig to the next in the wee hours in Monterrey, Mexico.
“Many have come to visit her,†the insider continued. “Some of them recognize <the>grave] because they are told that is where she allegedly is. Their only intentions are to come pray and pay tri <a href={url}>{keyword}</a> bute to their idol.â€
El Universal said that the fans come bearing gifts for Rivera and want to leave flowers at Rivera’s gravestone. Still, they can only go up to a certain point within the vicinity of Rivera’s burial grounds before security halts them.
“It is understandable that the family does not want for us to be near the grave, but Jenni was of the people and the people wa <a href={url}>{keyword}</a>nt to see where she rests in peace,†Carmen <a href={url}>{keyword}</a> López, a resident of Long Island, told the daily.
“I knew where her tomb was because one of her cousins told me,†she added. “Security did not tell me anything. We just went by to pay our respects to our Diva.â€

Flu Season Surges Early as Social Media Helps to Fight Getting Sick
Flu season is starting early this year, with severe cases <a href={url}>{keyword}</a>being reported throughout the country.

Sundance Film Fest: Gael Garcia Talks Oscar Nominated Film ‘No’
Park City, Utah Gael GarcÃa Bernal talked politics to audience members after the first Sundance Film Festival screening of “No.†In the film, recently nominated for an Oscar, the Mexican actor plays an advertising prodigy who helped oust Chilean President Augusto Pinochet in 1988.
After 15 years of dictatorship and much international pressure, Pinochet’s regime finally gave Chile a choice: “Yes,†keep the president in power, or “No,†elect a new leader.
Despite tough odds, GarcÃa Bernal’s character, René Saavedra, helped direct an innovative and daring television advertising campaign that inspired the majority of a country —whose violent political past was still fresh in the minds of many— to make a choice against the dictatorship and vote “No.â€
After the screening of the <a href={url}>{keyword}</a> film, GarcÃa Bernal answered some of the audience's questions and quickly dismissed one inquiring what Chileans thought of his accent — there are much bigger issues for Chileans to react on, he said.
“This film talks about getting rid of a dictator or an oppressing government with democratic means,†said GarcÃa Bernal to the audience, “it’s about a questioning. It’s a strong questioning.â€
GarcÃa Bernal went on to explain that despite one’s political or cultural background, everyone wants the same thing: “This experience, being able to talk freely without no problem. I mean, we can express our opinions and stuff without that kind of single discourse, single narrative, or bigotry.â€
The film’s director, Pablo LarraÃn, also commented on the impact the film has had on its audiences.
“It’s fascinating how people will just connect with the film throughout their own political reality even though this happened a long time ago in South America,†said LarraÃn, who is Chilean.
“Democracy is there to be in its own nature," GarcÃa Bernal said. “It is there to be perfected every day and to be made even better —or let's say less wors <a href={url}>{keyword}</a>e in some cases.â€
GarcÃa Bernal went on to say that he hopes that in addition to being an entertaining film, "No" will inspire people all over to question their political rea <a href={url}>{keyword}</a> lity.
“It’s really been a great kind of political project as well. It’s personal but it’s political. It’s engaging. It’s interesting for us to be in this situation and to have this conversation,†said GarcÃa Bernal.
“No†is one of seven films which make up this year’s prestigious “Spotlight†category. It's also been nominated for the 85th Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film.
“No†already opened in Chile and Mexico last year and will hit the big screen in U.S. theaters this February.
